That one time I went to a Tech Conference alone…

I am known for doing things alone – it’s something that’s been consistent in all 29 of my years. So it came as no surprise when one random June afternoon, I decided I’d get early bird tickets to the European Women in Tech conference in Amsterdam. I was about to commit to something out of my comfort zone – even for a loner like me – and that was: meeting other phenomenal women.

I hastily booked my conference pass, flights and accommodation and decided I’d give beautiful Amsterdam another visit. And boy, was I in for the surprise of my life: this was everything I signed up for and more – absolutely no regrets!

The sign behind me is something that resonates with me so much!

My biggest takeaway from the conference was the importance of diversity and inclusion and the role we all have to play. It was so refreshing to be around women who understand the feeling of being outnumbered by men in boardrooms and doing something to make sure that we change that outlook.  As someone who is in that awkward stage of no longer being an entry-level employee but also not being senior enough to occupy a C-suite position, it was uplifting meeting women who are making a difference – at all levels.

Verdict? This conference gets a 10/10 from me! I came back home all kinds of energised, ready to tackle so many problems with all the pointers I got from the many speakers and workshops I attended.
